The Hut Project: New Contemporaries is a collection of video interviews with artists who exhibited in the annual New Contemporaries graduate competition between 1989 and 2006. These interviews will be conducted by a team of graduating art students who are eligible to apply for the competition, currently being selected by The Hut Project through a series of talks at UK art schools and an open submission process.
We are asking all 478 artists who exhibited in New Contemporaries from 1989 through 2006 to take part in this project, by selecting from a list of their fellow participants every artist of whom they are unaware. We then aim to interview every artist who has been marked as ‘unknown’ by anyone, and will use these selections to index the resulting archive of interviews.
The Hut Project: New Contemporaries is being supported by Anthology Film Archives, New York; The British Library Sound Archive, London; and LUX, London, each of whom will store and distribute the archive.
