The Hut Project: New Contemporaries is a collection of video interviews with artists who exhibited in the annual New Contemporaries graduate competition between 1989 and 2006. The interviews that will make up this archive are being conducted by art students who are eligible to apply for the New Contemporaries competition, as well as invited artists, curators and writers.
To structure the interviewing process, we are asking all 478 artists who exhibited in New Contemporaries from 1989 through 2006 to select from a list of their fellow participants every artist of whom they are unaware. We then aim to interview every artist who has been marked as 'unknown' by anyone else. These selections will also be used to index the resulting archive.
The Hut Project: New Contemporaries is supported by Anthology Film Archives, New York; The British Library Sound Archive, London; and LUX, London, each of whom will store and distribute the archive.
