The interviews that will comprise the archive will be conducted by graduating art students who are themselves eligible to apply for the New Contemporaries competition as well as invited artists and curators. The Hut Project are currently looking for students to collaborate on this project as interviewers.
We are recruiting students through a series of talks at art schools across the UK. To find out if a talk will be held in your department please email interviewers<at>thehutproject.co.uk
Alternatively if you wish to apply to be an interviewer please email us a statement detailing your interest in collaborating on the project. You might like to tell us who you would like to interview and why, some questions you would like to ask them, how this project relates to your own practice, or what you think about the significance of the New Contemporaries competition. Please also tell us of any interviewing experience you may have. Please note that these are only suggestions and we are happy to hear whatever you think is appropriate to give us an idea of why you want to be involved.
How the actual interviews work (topics of discussion, setting etc.) will be open for interviewers to develop, however final editorial decisions will be made by The Hut Project. The project is designed to investigate the broader conditions of art practice rather than the New Contemporaries competition itself or the specifics of each artist's practice. Interviewers will be asked to transcribe a short section of their interviews that they feel will be appropriate to use in print material relating to the archive.
As the project involves so many interviewers and artists simultaneously please let us know if you have access to recording equipment (i.e. a mini-DV video camera). We will supply all DV tapes but it may not be possible to supply cameras to every interviewer, however it is not a requirement to find your own recording equipment. We will try our best to match up interviewers and artists as requested, though this will largely depend upon location and your ability to travel.
